Shia Citizen Killed After Abduction in Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan

A Shia citizen has been killed after being abducted by armed men in Dera Ismail Khan, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to Shia community media reports.

The victim was identified as Malangi Abbas, a resident of Mohalla Rana Zai in Tehsil Kulachi. Reports said he was abducted at gunpoint from his shop near the Central Imambargah Imam Hussain on May 21. His body, reportedly bearing signs of torture, was found the following evening by a roadside outside the city.

Shia community sources described the killing as part of continuing targeted violence against Shias in the region. However, no independent police statement or mainstream national report confirming the motive was found in the available search results.

Dera Ismail Khan has long been affected by sectarian violence and militant activity. Previous reports have documented targeted killings of Shia Muslims in the district, while rights sources have warned that sectarian motives can be difficult to confirm in some cases.

The killing has renewed concern among local Shia communities ahead of Muharram, a period when security risks often rise around Shia religious gatherings and Imambargahs in parts of Pakistan.
