Human rights organizations have reported a concerning increase in religiously motivated violence against Muslims in India during the first four months of 2026, with at least 13 deaths, including women, children, and the elderly.

According to Muslim TV, citing data from the India Persecution Index, multiple incidents of hate crimes, intimidation, and restrictions on religious practices have been documented across various states. The reports highlight an escalation of security and judicial interventions, sometimes involving local authorities, which have contributed to fatalities.

The states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of deaths, while some incidents also involved direct confrontations between security forces and Muslim civilians. In certain cases, religious rituals faced official restrictions, and dozens of individuals were reportedly arrested for participating in faith-based activities.

These developments have intensified concerns among human rights advocates regarding the safety and civil liberties of religious minorities in India, emphasizing the need for enhanced protection measures and monitoring of sectarian violence.
