Allahabad High Court Grants Bail to Eight Muslim Youths in Varanasi Ganga Iftar Boat Case
——————————————–
The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted bail to eight Muslim youths accused of throwing non-vegetarian food waste into the Ganga River during an iftar gathering on a boat in Varanasi.
According to Muslim Mirror, with this decision, eight out of the 14 accused have now been released.
The case arose after videos of the iftar party went viral, prompting a complaint by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha district chief Rajat Jaiswal. Police charged the 14 youths under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including promoting enmity, outraging religious feelings, fouling water, and under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
The incident triggered widespread debate over religious sensitivities, environmental pollution, and the sanctity of the Ganga. Six accused remain in custody as the investigation continues.
