The Lebanese Ministry of Health has reported a significant increase in the death toll from ongoing Israeli airstrikes, with the number of martyrs now reaching 2,618, and 8,094 injured since the escalation began. The government has also highlighted a growing humanitarian crisis, with more than 119,000 displaced people seeking shelter in emergency centers across Lebanon. These numbers continue to rise as Israel’s attacks persist, violating the ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States.

The Lebanese Disaster Risk Management Unit reported that as of Thursday, 31,322 families have been displaced, and 10,522 hostile actions have been recorded. The violence is disproportionately affecting civilian areas, with severe damage to infrastructure, homes, and medical facilities in the southern regions of Lebanon, where much of the fighting has concentrated.

On Friday, May 1, Israeli air forces carried out several strikes, killing at least 10 people, with reports of more casualties expected as the bombardment continues. Local reports describe the attacks as a flagrant violation of the ceasefire that was meant to bring temporary relief.

The ceasefire was initially declared on April 16, following significant Israeli strikes targeting Lebanon since March 2, 2026. The U.S.‑mediated ceasefire, declared by U.S. President Donald Trump, was later extended on April 23 for an additional three weeks, but the violence has continued unabated, exacerbating the already dire situation in southern Lebanon.

These developments underscore the ongoing challenges facing Lebanon, a country already reeling from the aftermath of years of political instability and economic hardship. Lebanese leaders and humanitarian organizations have called for greater international intervention to ensure that the ceasefire is respected and that civilian lives are protected. They have also emphasized the need for immediate aid to support the growing number of displaced families.
