Islamic World Commemorates Blessed Birth of Lady Fatimah al-Ma‘sumah (peace be upon her)
——————————————
Muslims across the world are observing the blessed anniversary of the birth of Lady Fatimah bint Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon them), known as Lady Fatimah al-Ma‘sumah (peace be upon her), on the first day of the month of Dhu al-Qa‘dah.
She was born in 173 AH in the holy city of Medina and is regarded as one of the most distinguished women in the history of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), known for her knowledge, piety, and elevated spiritual rank.
The occasion holds special significance for believers, with pilgrims annually visiting her sacred shrine in the holy city of Qom. The shrine is considered one of the most important religious sites in the Islamic world and a major spiritual and scholarly center that attracts millions seeking blessings and inspiration from her blessed legacy.
Historical sources state that Lady Fatimah al-Ma‘sumah (peace be upon her) left Medina intending to travel to Khurasan to visit her brother, Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (peace be upon him), after his relocation there by order of the Abbasid Caliph al-Ma’mun (may eternal Wrath of God be upon him). During her journey, she fell ill in the city of Saveh and requested to be taken to Qom upon learning of its proximity.
The people of Qom warmly welcomed her, led by Musa ibn Khazraj al-Ash‘ari, who hosted her in his home. She remained there for seventeen days before passing away. He prepared her burial, and she was laid to rest in the location that later became her revered shrine.
Lady Fatimah al-Ma‘sumah (peace be upon her) holds a prominent place in Islamic tradition, with numerous narrations highlighting the virtue of visiting her shrine. Over centuries, Qom has developed into a major center of religious scholarship, hosting seminaries and attracting students of Islamic sciences from around the world.
Commemorative gatherings and cultural events are held in various Islamic cities and countries on this occasion, where her noble life and faith-driven example are remembered, emphasizing her role in strengthening moral values and elevating the status of women in Islamic society.
