Large numbers of pilgrims have begun walking toward the holy city of Karbala from various parts of Iraq to commemorate the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) and to participate in the Sha‘baniyya pilgrimage.

The annual religious movement coincides with the days marking the birth of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) and has seen the participation of organized caravans, religious groups, service teams, and volunteer-run mawakib providing assistance along the routes. The pilgrimage is widely regarded as an expression of devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and a reaffirmation of religious identity and spiritual solidarity among worshippers.

A notable presence of young pilgrims has been reported along the walking routes, reflecting continued engagement by the younger generation in religious rituals and communal acts of worship.

According to Shia Waves Agency, participants stated that large crowds, particularly from Dhi Qar province, have set out on foot toward Karbala with strong enthusiasm to take part in the Sha‘baniyya visitation ceremonies. Pilgrims described the journey as an opportunity to renew their commitment to the values of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) and his family, and to strengthen religious loyalty.

The agency also reported that officials overseeing mawakib have confirmed orderly movement along the routes, extensive service provision, and the availability of essential supplies for pilgrims. Meanwhile, official sources in Karbala announced that early security plans have been prepared to ensure the safety and stability of the large numbers of visitors expected during the Sha‘baniyya pilgrimage.
