Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: An Apostate Is One Who Denies Monotheism, Prophethood, or the Hereafter

The daily scholarly session of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Hosseini Shirazi was held on Sunday, the seventh of Rajab 1447 AH.
As in previous sessions, the senior cleric addressed questions from attendees on various jurisprudential issues.
In response to a question regarding the ruling on apostasy for Shiites who deny the existence of one of the infallible Imams (peace be upon them), Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated that such individuals do not fall under the ruling of apostasy.
He clarified that an apostate is defined as someone who denies monotheism (tawhid), prophethood, or the Day of Judgment (the Hereafter).
He further emphasized that even such denial does not constitute apostasy if it occurs in circumstances where a large number of people are affected by a particular misunderstanding or doubt.
