The International Organization for the Defense of Shia Rights has condemned an attack targeting the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in the Syrian city of Homs, describing the bombing as a serious terrorist act against a civilian place of worship and a grave violation of human rights.

In a statement, the organization said the explosion occurred during Friday prayers and, according to preliminary information, resulted in 32 people being killed or wounded. It warned that attacks on religious sites are deepening concerns over rising violence driven by sectarian identity in Syria.

The organization said the incident fits a broader pattern of abuses affecting Shia and Alawite communities. It noted that, over the past year, it has documented multiple attacks on civilians, religious institutions, and community figures, citing cooperation with human rights sources and open media reporting.

The group stressed that targeting places of worship constitutes a serious breach of international human rights and humanitarian law. It argued that repeated attacks highlight the need to move beyond condemnations toward effective preventive measures and accountability.

The organization called for an independent and transparent investigation into the bombing and similar incidents. It also urged authorities to provide immediate protection for religious communities and worship sites, warning that continued impunity could further undermine social stability and communal peace in Syria.
