Seven Suspected TTP Militants Killed in North Waziristan Operations
………
Pakistani security forces have killed seven suspected Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in two separate operations in North Waziristan. The operations, conducted two days prior to December 3, followed intelligence identifying the militants’ locations, local media reported.
Militant activity has risen sharply in Pakistan in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, with officials linking the increase to the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Security data cited in local reports indicate that more than 600 terrorist incidents were recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the first eight months of 2025 alone.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged Taliban authorities in Kabul to prevent Afghan territory from being used by militants targeting Pakistani soil, a dispute that has contributed to periodic border clashes. Kabul denies the allegations, maintaining that Afghanistan is not being used as a base for attacks and asserting that Pakistan should address its internal security challenges.
Regional diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with Turkey and Saudi Arabia recently hosting mediation talks aimed at fostering counterterrorism cooperation between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other regional partners. Analysts note that the success of these initiatives may hinge on establishing trust, verification mechanisms, and sustained communication to stabilize the border region and prevent further escalation.
