Madrid Hosts Symposium on Role of Religious Institutions in Strengthening Conscience
—————————————
Madrid is hosting a symposium examining the role of religious institutions in fostering a secure conscience and promoting societal well-being. The event, titled “The Role of Religious Institutions in Strengthening a Secure Conscience and Its Effects on the Well-Being of Societies,” is organized under the auspices of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Leganés.
According to IQNA, the symposium brings together a delegation from Al-Azhar, including Abbas Shouman, Secretary General of the Council of Senior Scholars, and Mohammed Al-Jundi, Secretary General of the Islamic Research Council of Egypt. Religious leaders and academics are participating to discuss issues related to social awareness, positive integration, and the cultivation of critical thinking within European societies.
Shouman emphasized that Al-Azhar prioritizes promoting enlightened thought and protecting societies from extremism in the digital age. He noted that institutions engaged in intellectual and spiritual guidance must now go beyond traditional discourses to develop a critical consciousness capable of evaluating information, strengthening minds, and fostering peaceful social interactions.
Al-Jundi highlighted the importance of cooperation between religious institutions, universities, and European research centers as a step toward building a common understanding to support societies. He also stressed that in the face of rapidly growing digital content influencing youth, mindfulness is cultivated internally through solid education, credible institutions, virtuous role models, and honest media systems.
Finally, Al-Jundi indicated that Al-Azhar intends to expand its global engagement programs and offer a discourse adapted to contemporary intellectual and social challenges, aiming to reinforce societal resilience and cohesion.
