Taliban Accused of Using Children in Militarized Propaganda Displays

The Taliban in Afghanistan are increasingly using children in militarized public displays, dressing them in combat-style uniforms and equipping them with mock weapons during gatherings and ceremonies held by the group, Shia Waves Persian reported based on recently circulated images and media reports.
Photos shared on social media show young children standing alongside Taliban members while wearing military-style clothing and carrying replica weapons. According to a report by Independent Persian, the children appear in these events without personal consent, serving as symbolic participants intended to project loyalty from future generations toward hardline Sunni militant factions.
Experts say the practice exposes children to violent imagery and disciplined ideological environments at an early age. Psychological and social researchers warn that such exposure may disrupt healthy development and increase the likelihood of long-term emotional and behavioral challenges.
The Afghanistan International News Agency reported that some parents allow or send their children to these events under social pressure or due to Taliban influence in their communities, effectively turning minors into tools of political messaging.
Analysts note that the use of children in these displays forms part of the Taliban’s broader strategy to reinforce power structures and disseminate its ideology. They caution that the long-term effects may extend beyond individual well-being, influencing broader social and cultural dynamics in Afghanistan.
