24 Kidnapped Schoolgirls Freed in Northwestern Nigeria
………..
Twenty-four girls abducted from a government boarding school in northwestern Nigeria last week have been released, Reuters reported. The students were taken on November 17 after armed attackers stormed their school in Kebbi state shortly after a military unit left the area, an incident officials say prompted similar abductions in Kwara and Niger states.
President Bola Tinubu welcomed the girls’ release on Tuesday and urged security agencies to intensify operations to rescue others still held captive. He said the government would provide all necessary support to prevent further kidnappings and protect vulnerable communities.
Mass abductions for ransom have become increasingly common across northern Nigeria, where armed groups frequently target rural areas and schools, overwhelming local security forces.
