Indonesia is intensifying efforts to reinforce its national halal ecosystem as part of a broader strategy to establish itself as a major player in the global halal supply chain, according to Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Metro TV News reported. Haikal said the country aims to shift from being primarily a consumer market to becoming an influential contributor to the international halal industry.

He noted that halal is increasingly viewed worldwide not only as a matter of religious adherence but also as a benchmark for quality, safety, and product integrity—factors that shape global trade and consumer behavior. The global halal economy, he added, has expanded significantly beyond food to include fashion, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and tourism.

Rising consumer awareness and the growing appeal of halal-certified lifestyles continue to boost demand. Haikal urged the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and business stakeholders to intensify support for government initiatives, particularly in accelerating halal certification for MSMEs and enhancing product competitiveness.

He also highlighted the need for transparent labeling of halal and non-halal products to strengthen consumer trust. With stronger collaboration across sectors, Haikal expressed confidence that Indonesia can position itself as a global halal hub.
