Fatimiyyah: A Time of Mourning, Reflection on Legacy of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (peace be upon her)

The Fatimiyyah Days mark the annual mourning period for Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (peace be upon her), the revered daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family).

According to historical narrations, her martyrdom occurred 75 days after the passing of the Prophet, and these days are observed by Shia Muslims worldwide as a time of grief, remembrance, and spiritual renewal.

Throughout this period, mourning gatherings and commemorations are held in mosques, Hussainiyas, and Islamic centers across the world. These events serve as a reminder of Lady Fatimah’s sacrifice, steadfastness, and defense of truth, qualities that continue to inspire Muslims of all generations.

Believers honor her memory through lectures, eulogies, recitations, and lamentations, expressing their sorrow for her suffering and their admiration for her unwavering devotion to Islam and the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). The Fatimiyyah period also offers a chance for self-reflection and a renewed commitment to the values of patience, justice, and faith embodied by Lady Fatimah.

Prominent religious authorities, including Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, and affiliated institutions around the world, mark these days with special mourning programs and educational activities. These gatherings aim to deepen understanding of Fatimiyyah teachings and highlight Lady Fatimah’s pivotal role in the spiritual and moral heritage of Islam.

On Tuesday, 12th Jumada al-Awwal 1447 AH (November 4, 2025), the residence of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi in the holy city of Qom was immersed in deep mourning to mark the anniversary of the martyrdom of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (peace be upon her) and the days of sorrow commemorating the loneliness of Imam Ali (peace be upon him).

The solemn gathering brought together a large number of scholars, seminary teachers, students, mourners, and followers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), as well as pilgrims of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’sumah (peace be upon her).

Participants listened to heartfelt elegies and sermons recounting the tragic martyrdom of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra and the suffering endured by the Ahl al-Bayt, reflecting on their profound patience and devotion.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the hastening of the reappearance of Imam al-Mahdi (may our souls be sacrificed for him), as attendees expressed their grief and renewed their allegiance to the values embodied by Lady Fatimah and her noble family.

Commemorating the Fatimiyyah Days is not only an act of devotion but also a reaffirmation of allegiance to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), encouraging reflection on Lady Fatimah’s timeless example of faith, courage, and resistance against oppression.
