A 49-year-old man died after a shooting incident outside the Mevlana Mosque in Copenhagen following Friday prayers, Shia Waves Persian reported.

The incident began as a physical altercation between the 49-year-old victim and a 39-year-old suspect. The suspect then allegedly fired six shots. The victim was rushed to a Copenhagen hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.

The 39-year-old suspect was immediately taken into custody and will remain in provisional detention until October 30. He claims the shooting was an act of self-defense.

Police are continuing their investigation into the exact motive and full details of the incident. Authorities are also reviewing the case to determine whether the charges against the suspect will be upgraded following the victim’s death.
