Commemorating the Night of Sacrifice: Imam Ali’s Historic Act of Devotion
……………..
On the first night of Rabi’ al-Awwal, Muslims commemorate a pivotal moment in Islamic history known as the “Night of Sacrifice,” when Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) risked his life to protect the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family). As Quraysh plotted to assassinate the Prophet, Imam Ali agreed to sleep in the Prophet’s bed, covered with his cloak, to mislead the attackers and ensure the Prophet’s safe migration from Mecca.
The Imam’s selfless act is widely regarded as a profound example of devotion and courage. The Quran honors this moment in verse 2:207: “And of the people is he who sells himself, seeking the pleasure of Allah.” This event remains a defining symbol of sacrifice in Islamic tradition.
