Fighting in Yemen’s Taiz Deepens Humanitarian Crisis as Hospitals Struggle to Cope
————————————
Renewed fighting between Yemen’s internationally recognized government forces and the Houthi movement is worsening the humanitarian crisis, disrupting aid deliveries and placing additional pressure on an already fragile health system.
The escalation has affected Taiz and other areas, including Marib and the Red Sea coast. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported on October 14 that hospitals across the country were struggling to treat a growing number of people wounded in the fighting, amid critical shortages of medical supplies, specialized staff and equipment. Some frontline facilities recorded more than 700 admissions in a single week.
Taiz has become a major focus of the renewed conflict, with fighting threatening supply routes and restricting civilians’ access to food, fuel and medicine. Reports indicate that the latest offensive has intensified pressure on residents and humanitarian organizations, while insecurity and road closures complicate the movement of aid and the evacuation of wounded people.
The World Health Organization said in September that more than 122,000 people had been displaced by the escalation across eight governorates.
