Imam Hussein Shrine Enhances Cooling Systems for Muharram Pilgrims
………………….
The Technical and Engineering Projects Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) has launched a new initiative to improve comfort for millions of pilgrims during Muharram. Safaa Ali Hussein, head of the Cooling Unit, said the department installed advanced central cooling systems with a total capacity exceeding 9,000 tons across the shrine’s courtyards.
The cooling maintains indoor temperatures between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius to help prevent health issues from sudden temperature changes. A new system regulating air pressure will also expel contaminated air, reducing respiratory risks for visitors. All operations are managed by Iraqi specialists.
The enhancements come as millions of Shia Muslims and other visitors gather in Holy Karbala to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and his companions on Ashura, which falls on July 6 this year. The shrine expects a significant influx of local and international pilgrims during the mourning period.
