Rights Groups Demand End to “Unspoken War” on Muslims and Communities of Color

Amid a surge in attacks targeting Muslim and minority communities in North Carolina, a broad coalition of social justice organizations has called for an end to what they described as an “unspoken war” on Muslims and people of color in the United States.

At a press conference, groups including Muslims for Social Justice and People’s Power Lab urged federal and state authorities to halt what they called systematic abuses and a “silent complicity” fueling rising hate.

The call follows alarming incidents in recent days, including immigration raids at public and private facilities, forced deportations of foreign students, and a school assault in Charlotte targeting a Muslim girl — now under investigation as a hate crime. A recent CAIR report recorded over 8,600 anti-Muslim and anti-Arab complaints in 2024 alone — the highest since 1996.

Activists linked the spike to discriminatory laws and past policies like the “Muslim travel ban,” demanding systemic reform, an end to overseas wars, and meaningful investment in public services and equal rights for all Americans.
