Bangladesh’s Interim Government Calls for National Unity Amid Political Tensions

Bangladesh’s caretaker administration, established following last year’s mass protests, issued a stark warning on Saturday emphasizing the critical need for political unity to safeguard democratic progress, Arab News reported.
In an official statement released after escalating street protests in Dhaka, the interim government stressed: “Only through broad consensus can we ensure stability, conduct credible elections, deliver justice, implement reforms, and—most crucially—block any resurgence of authoritarian rule.”
The South Asian nation, home to 170 million people, has faced prolonged instability since the August 2024 ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by student-led demonstrations. Recent weeks saw renewed tensions as opposing factions mobilized rival protests across the capital.
