Muslim-Majority Nations Show Higher Marriage Rates Than EU in 2024

New 2024 marriage data reveals a striking divide: Muslim-majority countries maintain nearly double the EU’s marriage rates, with religious values outweighing economic factors in shaping marital trends.

Turkey (8.1 marriages/1,000 people) and Malaysia (7.9) led Muslim-majority nations in 2024, far surpassing the EU average of 4.3, according to UN statistics. France (5.1) topped EU members, while Italy (3.0) lagged.

Religious norms proved decisive in Muslim societies, with 68% of couples citing faith as a primary motivator (Pew Research). Economic instability showed minimal impact—Pakistan’s rate held at 7.2 despite financial pressures.

The EU displayed an inverse pattern: wealthier nations like Germany (4.0) had lower rates than less stable Romania (6.5), reflecting delayed marriages amid career and cost concerns.
