Japan’s ‘Pocket Park’ Officially Recognized as World’s Smallest by Guinness World Records

A tiny green space in Nagaizumi town, Shizuoka Prefecture, has been officially certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s smallest park, measuring just 0.24 square meters (2.58 square feet), Anadolu Agency reported. The park, locally known for over 30 years as the “world’s smallest park,” features a single wooden seat placed on a rock, surrounded by small plants, raised bricks, and two stone monuments—one engraved with the town’s symbolic flower.
According to Kyodo News, the town authorities decided to pursue the record in 2023, hiring a surveyor to verify the park’s dimensions and confirm its existence for at least five years—a requirement for Guinness certification. The official recognition was granted in December 2024.
Since the announcement, the park has gained attention as a tourist attraction, drawing visitors from beyond Shizuoka Prefecture. The site, though minimal in size, holds sentimental value for locals as a resting spot and now stands as a unique landmark in Japan’s urban landscape.
