Iraq announces $100 million tourist city project in Holy Najaf

The Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities has unveiled plans for a $100 million integrated tourist city in Holy Najaf as part of efforts to boost the country’s tourism sector.

Nasser Ghanem Murad, head of the Tourism Authority, stated that the project involves transforming the old Najaf Tourist Hotel into a modern complex featuring a five-star hotel, commercial and cultural centers, and recreational facilities, confirming that all procedures are complete, with only the investment license pending.

The ministry’s plan includes tax exemptions, debt restructuring for hotels, and coordination with the Ministry of Electricity to support tourism establishments. Efforts are also underway to streamline entry procedures for Iranian visitors while ensuring financial sustainability for hotels and tourism companies.

Additionally, the ministry is exploring the creation of an archaeological museum in Holy Najaf, with land already allocated for the project. The initiative is expected to enhance tourism in Holy Najaf, a key destination for millions of visitors throughout the year.
