Over 30 Million People in Sudan Urgently Need Humanitarian Aid, Says UN Migration Agency

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Wednesday that over 30 million individuals in conflict-stricken Sudan are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance due to deteriorating living conditions, Anadolu Agency reported.

Mohamed Refaat, head of the IOM Mission in Sudan, stated on X that “cholera outbreaks and other health emergencies are exacerbating the crisis” in the nation. He emphasized the necessity of securing funding for humanitarian efforts to reach those in need. Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a conflict between the army and the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF), leading to over 20,000 deaths and 15 million displaced, according to UN and local sources. A study by U.S. universities estimates the death toll to be around 130,000.
