Arrest Made Following Attack on Ale-Yasin Hussainiya in Sydney

The police of the Ale-Yasin Hosseiniyah area in Sydney have arrested an individual in connection with the attack on the prominent Shia center last Tuesday, March 5. The suspect was apprehended for desecrating the Hosseiniyah by removing the flag of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), which had been displayed for 13 years.

Inspector Guthrie confirmed that the individual, identified as affiliated with extremist Sunni groups, is currently in custody and has been denied bail while awaiting his court date. This arrest follows a swift response from the Ale-Yasin Hussainiya officials, who have pursued legal action against the perpetrator.

In retaliation for the arrest of the individual in question, the group affiliated with him appeared at the Hosseiniyah and left a letter for the members along with an ISIS flag. The content of the letter is as follows:

“YOU FILTHY RAFIDHI PIGS, WE WILL KEEP TAKING YOUR FLAGS DOWN YOU MUSHRIKEEN, RAISE THE FLAG OF TAWHID.”

Immediately after placing the ISIS flag at the Hosseiniyah, on Wednesday, the police chief of the area, the head of the terrorism division, the head of crimes, and other officials from Sydney visited the Hosseiniyah to show their support for the Ale-Yasin Hosseiniyah.

In a show of resilience, the youth of the Hussainiya had raised a new flag of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) on the same day as the incident.

The Ale-Yasin Hussainiya, established and operated by followers of Grand Ayatullah Shirazi, remains a vital cultural and religious hub for the Shia community in Australia, offering various programs and events weekly.
