St. Paul Schools Launch Ramadan Meal Kit Program for Muslim Students

As Ramadan begins, St. Paul Public Schools, along with 18 other Minnesota districts, has introduced a new Ramadan Meal Kit program to support Muslim students during the holy month, CBS news reported. This initiative allows students to receive meal kits containing breakfast and lunch at the end of the school day, enabling them to break their fast at sunset.

Stacy Koppen, director of nutrition services for St. Paul Public Schools, stated that the program aims to honor and respect students’ religious practices. The district is packaging 750 meal kits daily to accommodate the large number of fasting students.

Dr. Abdisalam Adam, principal at East African Magnet School, praised the initiative, noting that many young students are eager to participate in Ramadan, even if they are not yet required to fast. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and recognition of faith values within the school community. The meal kits are provided at no additional cost, enhancing support for students during this significant time.
