FreeMuslim Association calls for arms control on International Disarmament Awareness Day

On the occasion of the UN-designated International Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness Day, observed annually on March 5, the FreeMuslim Association—an international anti-violence organization—issued a statement urging global governments to uphold international agreements aimed at curbing the spread of destructive weapons and promoting global security.

The organization emphasized that the proliferation of weapons, particularly weapons of mass destruction such as chemical and biological arms, remains a major threat to world peace, pointing to escalating political conflicts as a key driver behind the spread of such arms.

The statement specifically called on major powers to halt the supply of lethal weapons to conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa, arguing that such arms fuel violence, empower militias, and endanger civilian populations. Additionally, it urged weapons-producing nations to cease supplying authoritarian regimes, particularly those known for suppressing civilians or engaging in cross-border aggression.

Concluding its message, the FreeMuslim Association stressed the need to restrict arms flow into war zones and encouraged conflicting parties to engage in inclusive dialogue as a means to achieve peace, highlighting that fostering a culture of dialogue is essential for reducing tensions and preventing violent conflicts worldwide.
