United Nations: Afghanistan is going through a very serious humanitarian crisis

The United Nations has warned that Afghanistan is going through a very serious humanitarian crisis, calling on the world to meet the humanitarian needs inside the country and the needs of Afghan refugees abroad.
At the conclusion of his four-day visit to Afghanistan, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, stressed the need for the world to provide sustainable and robust support to meet the humanitarian needs inside Afghanistan and the needs of Afghan refugees abroad.
“As much as the world is rightly concerned with the war in Ukraine, Afghanistan is in a very serious crisis,” Grandi said.
Grandi arrived in Afghanistan on Monday and met the staff of the United Nations and NGOs who continue to provide vital assistance across the country.
During the visit, he inaugurated a health center built by UNHCR in Kandahar, and a school for girls built by UNHCR in Jalalabad, noting that “women who provide for their families fear for the health and well-being of their children, mothers and fathers are desperate to support their families. The needs here are enormous.”
During his meetings, Grandi reiterated UNHCR’s firm commitment to staying and providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
