Muslim students in Germany gathered in Frankfurt on January 31, 2025, as part of their annual meeting to discuss rising anti-Muslim racism and its direct impact on their lives. This meeting came following a dramatic rise in Islamophobic incidents in 2024.
During the meeting, 89% of the attendees confirmed that they had experienced Islamophobic incidents at school, university, workplaces, and public spaces. This aligns with a 2023 study by “Claim Allianz,” which found that nearly 80% of Muslims or those perceived as Muslims in Germany had faced racism.
The “European Islamophobia Report 2023,” which examined anti-Muslim sentiment in 28 European countries, revealed that Israel’s current attacks on Gaza have led to a notable increase in Islamophobia across Europe.
Muslim organizations and global human rights groups emphasized that combating Islamophobia requires both institutional action and societal awareness, calling on the German authorities to take concrete measures to curb this phenomenon.
Fact-checking groups recorded comments against Muslims and migrants on social media platforms in Germany during 2024, while Human Rights Watch (HRW) highlighted that the German government is falling short in protecting Muslims from racism and Islamophobic attacks.
