Ramadan Lights Illuminate London for Third Consecutive Year

The initiative aims to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan, which is expected to commence in early March. The dazzling display features over 30,000 LED bulbs, illuminating the city from 5 PM to 5 AM until March 29.

During the lighting ceremony, Mayor Khan emphasized London’s commitment to diversity and unity, stating that the city stands against all forms of hatred. He noted that London was the first city in the Western world to install Ramadan decorations, calling the lights an “antidote to Islamophobia, antisemitism, and all forms of hatred.”

Ramadan is a significant month for Muslims, characterized by fasting from dawn until sunset, prayer, reflection, and community engagement. It also emphasizes charitable giving to those in need. The installation of these lights serves to foster a sense of community and inclusivity during this important time.

London’s West End has been adorned with vibrant Ramadan lights as the city prepares for the upcoming Muslim holy month, Anadolu Agency reported. For the third consecutive year, the “Happy Ramadan” lights were officially switched on along Coventry Street by London Mayor Sadiq Khan on February 26, 2025.
