Washington state legislators are reviewing bills to establish Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as official state holidays, news outlets said on Tuesday.
Senator Yasmin Trudeau, D-Tacoma, introduced the proposal to enhance understanding of Islamic traditions and counteract Islamophobia.
The legislation has garnered substantial support, with nearly 40 co-sponsors across both chambers. In 2014, the state allowed employees to take two unpaid faith-based holidays annually, and in 2019, it mandated accommodations for students observing religious practices.
