IMF chief lauds Ethiopia’s economic reform progress

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has commended Ethiopia for making “strong progress” in its economic reform efforts, Xinhua news agency reported.

During her two-day visit to Addis Ababa, Georgieva met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other senior officials to discuss the country’s macroeconomic policies. She highlighted Ethiopia’s shift towards a market-driven economy and reaffirmed the IMF’s support for its reform agenda.

Abiy described the reforms, backed by one of the IMF’s largest financing programs, as crucial for stabilizing the economy and fostering long-term growth. He emphasized that ongoing efforts aim to improve living standards and position Ethiopia as a model for economic prosperity in Africa.

The IMF official also engaged with Ethiopian business leaders, encouraging the government to maintain momentum by ensuring a stable and predictable investment climate.
