The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea on Monday from an NGO seeking to grant Rohingya refugees in Delhi access to public schools and hospitals, The Hindu reported. The court previously instructed the NGO, Rohingya Human Rights Initiative, to provide details on the refugees’ settlements in Delhi and the facilities available to them.

The NGO argues that Rohingya refugees, holding UNHCR cards, are denied access to essential services due to the absence of Aadhaar cards. They reside in areas such as Shaheen Bagh, Kalindi Kunj, and Khajuri Khas, often in slums or rented accommodations. The plea seeks free admission for Rohingya children in schools and participation in examinations without ID proof. It also requests equal access to government benefits, including healthcare and subsidized food, regardless of citizenship status, emphasizing the need for humanitarian support for these refugees.
