More Than 20,000 Palestinians Displaced by Israeli Assault on Jenin Refugee Camp

According to a Palestinian official, more than 20,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank due to Israeli military actions, Anadolu Agency reported. Mansour Al-Saadi, the Deputy Governor of Jenin, stated on Sunday that the Israeli occupation has completely devastated the camp, leaving residents to abandon their homes, documents, and personal belongings.

The displaced individuals are likely to seek refuge in other cities throughout the West Bank, as the destruction renders their return unfeasible. Al-Saadi described the Israeli offensive as “collective punishment” affecting nearly 400,000 residents of Jenin city and termed the assault a “conspiracy” against the refugee issue aimed at erasing it entirely.

He emphasized the significant economic losses and disruption to the education system caused by the ongoing violence. Al-Saadi called on international human rights and legal organizations to document the extent of the destruction, expressing concern that the bodies of deceased and injured individuals may still be trapped under the rubble.

The escalation follows a broader Israeli military campaign that began on January 21, resulting in at least 25 fatalities, with further assaults in Tulkarem and Tammun. Since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have reportedly killed at least 906 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
