New Jersey Celebrates Muslim Heritage Month
New Jersey’s Assembly has commemorated Muslim Heritage Month with a ceremony at the Statehouse in Trenton, recognizing the vital contributions of Muslim-Americans to the state’s cultural landscape, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
The event highlighted the role of Muslim communities in fostering diversity, education, and interfaith engagement, with New Jersey home to approximately 320,000 Muslims, or 3.5% of its population.
Assemblywoman Shama Haider honored two Pakistani-American leaders, Hannan Arshad and Rizwan Ali, for their dedication to civic engagement. Hannan, a Rutgers graduate pursuing a Master’s in Healthcare Administration at NYU, was recognized for his involvement in interfaith initiatives and community service. Rizwan, Religious Chairman of Darul Islah Mosque in Teaneck, was acknowledged for promoting interfaith dialogue and organizing community events.
Now in its second year, Muslim Heritage Month aims to highlight Muslim Americans’ contributions while fostering cultural understanding and unity. The Consulate General of Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Pakistani and Muslim communities across the U.S.
