US Airstrikes Target 75 ISIS Camps in Syria
On Sunday, the United States military conducted airstrikes against 75 ISIS camps in Syria, aiming to prevent the group from exploiting recent turmoil in the region, Rudaw reported yesterday.
The operation, coordinated by the Central Command (CENTCOM), is part of an ongoing mission to disrupt and degrade the Sunni extremist group’s capabilities.
The strikes come amid recent developments in Syria, where a coalition of militants led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) toppled the regime after capturing the capital, Damascus. The chaos has allowed ISIS to increase its activities, including hit-and-run attacks against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
CENTCOM commander General Michael Erik Kurilla emphasized accountability for any group supporting ISIS. The SDF has also reported taking significant measures to counter potential ISIS attacks in eastern Syria, highlighting the ongoing volatility in the region.
