Muslim community in North Carolina converts abandoned warehouse into mosque

An abandoned warehouse in Apex, North Carolina, transformed into a vibrant Islamic center after local Muslims purchased it in 2009 for $3.6 million.

Dr. Khaled Shaho, a mosque co-founder, explained that the project was born from the growing Muslim population and a lack of suitable prayer spaces.

The community negotiated a self-financed agreement with the seller to avoid interest-bearing loans and converted the building into a mosque within a month.

Despite financial challenges, including $20,000 monthly installments, the mosque paid off its debt in under a decade through community support.

The mosque has become a cornerstone for preserving Islamic identity while fostering integration into American society, highlighting Islam as a moral and cultural asset.
