Novel Front-Loading Exoskeleton Gets Paralyzed Patients Up and Walking
KAIST’s WalkON Suit F1 is revolutionizing mobility for paraplegic patients, New Atlas reported yesterday.
Unlike traditional exoskeletons that require assistance, this innovative device can autonomously approach a wheelchair user, wrap around their legs and body, and help them stand and walk.
Developed by Professor Kyoung-Chul Kong and his team, the WalkON Suit F1 features a front-docking system, active weight control to prevent toppling, and improved balance for hands-free mobility. Enhanced motors and vision recognition for obstacle detection further boost its capabilities.
This achievement highlights the potential of wearable robots to transform daily life for individuals with mobility challenges, showcasing the future of assistive technology. Professor Kong emphasized the importance of this innovation in advancing the field and inspiring new possibilities for wearable robotics.
