Bangladesh Faces Economic Catastrophe: Unemployment, Hunger, and Energy Crisis

Bangladesh is in the grip of an economic crisis, with soaring unemployment, severe food shortages, and energy shortages plunging the nation into darkness, an article by Khaama Press revealed yesterday.

The latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey reveals an unemployment rate of 3.65%, affecting 2.64 million people, while the labor force has shrunk by 1.3% to 72.8 million. The garment industry, a key economic driver, has seen 79 factories close, leading to widespread worker protests.

The food crisis is equally dire, with the Global Hunger Index ranking Bangladesh 84th among 127 countries. Approximately 11.9% of the population suffers from malnutrition, and food inflation has made basic staples unaffordable for many.

Compounding these issues, energy shortages have led to daily power outages of up to 10 hours, disrupting life in both urban and rural areas. As millions struggle to survive, concerns grow over the government’s ability to address these overlapping crises, leaving the nation teetering on the brink of further despair.
