German researcher publishes book on Qur’anic terminology, its relation to previous traditions

The German scholar and author, Nicolai Sinai, has released a new book titled “Key Terms in the Qur’an: A Critical Lexicon,” which is considered a significant addition to Qur’anic studies.

The book offers an in-depth analysis of the essential Qur’anic concepts, aiming to clarify how these terms are used within the Qur’anic text and their relationship to earlier religious traditions, including Judaism and Christianity.

Sinai, a professor of Islamic Studies at Oxford University, drew on years of research and scrutiny of the Qur’an, focusing on the literary and philosophical dimensions of the text. The book highlights important terms such as the names and attributes of God, as well as concepts of faith and servitude, showing how these concepts contribute to shaping the Qur’an’s worldview.

The German author explained that his study is not limited to analyzing religious texts, but also addresses the historical relationship between the Qur’an and previous religious traditions. The book deeply explores how these terms have been interpreted over different eras.

The book has received widespread praise from scholars in Qur’anic studies, as it is considered an important academic reference for a deeper understanding of Qur’anic terms and their impact on shaping religious thought.
