Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Holy Prophet Repeatedly Urged People to Follow Holy Quran, Ahl al-Bayt

The daily scholarly meetings led by Grand Ayatollah Sayed Sadiq Hosseini Shirazi continued on Friday at his residence, the 7th of Rabi al-Thani. In this session, as in previous ones, the Supreme Marja addressed attendees’ questions regarding various jurisprudential issues.

Regarding the concept and examples of the Ahl al-Bayt, his Eminence stated that both Shia and non-Shia texts contain narrations indicating that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) visited the home of Imam Ali and Lady Fatimah (peace be upon them) daily for six months—approximately 180 days—reciting the verse of purification and saying, “Peace be upon you, O people of the House.”

Grand Ayatullah Shirazi further explained that through this action, the Holy Prophet aimed to focus everyone’s attention on the members of this Household, namely Imam Ali, Lady Fatimah, and their sons, Imam Hasan and Imam Husayn (peace be upon them all).

He emphasized that the emphasis on the Ahl al-Bayt in the verse of purification solely pertains to these esteemed individuals, and based on numerous indications, the Ahl al-Bayt is limited to the Five People of the Cloak and their immaculate descendants, and excludes the wives of the Prophet.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi further added that the Prophet repeatedly urged people to follow the Holy Quran and the Ahl al-Bayt.
