Indonesia hosts global seminar on eco-friendly mosques, their roles in climate change

Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs hosted a global seminar titled “The Eco-Friendly Mosque, Climate Change, and Future Generations” in Surakarta, Central Java. The seminar aimed to encourage mosques to adopt sustainable environmental practices and help communities address climate change challenges.

Academics, researchers, and mosque officials from various countries participated. Ahmad Ziyadi, Acting Director of Islamic Affairs, emphasized that mosques should play a strategic role not only as places of worship but also in raising community awareness, including on environmental issues.

Akmal Salim Ruhana, head of the mosque affairs sub-directorate, noted that the seminar featured presentations and discussions on mosque development and environmental sustainability, along with an exhibition of eco-friendly mosques and the presentation of Indonesia’s model mosque award.
