Afghanistan: Boat Capsizes in Nangarhar, Claiming Eight Lives

A tragic incident occurred in Nangarhar province on September 30, when a boat capsized in the Koz Kunar district, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals, including women and children, Khaama Press revealed today.

Local authorities reported that strong winds caused the vessel to overturn in the Kashkut and Sarband areas.

So far, four bodies, including one woman, have been recovered, while four others, including a child, remain missing. The boat was carrying 17 passengers, with nine successfully rescued.

Additionally, a Suzuki vehicle was submerged during the incident. This is not the first such tragedy in the region; earlier this year, another capsizing led to eight fatalities. The frequent occurrence of these accidents highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures and infrastructure for water transport, particularly in rural areas where vulnerable populations, including women and children, are often at risk.
