Torrential rains cause devastation in Mumbai, resulting in floods and fatalities

Mumbai, India’s financial hub, faced severe flooding on Thursday as torrential rains lashed the city, resulting in at least four fatalities, Reuters reported.

The deluge, which began on Wednesday evening, brought approximately 275mm of rain to certain areas, paralyzing road traffic and disrupting train services relied upon by millions of commuters.

Residents were urged to remain indoors, with schools and colleges closed and fishermen advised to stay ashore until Friday.

Drone footage shared on social media depicted congested highways filled with stranded vehicles, leaving countless commuters trapped for hours.

While the monsoon season typically begins in June and retreats by mid-September, this year’s rains have lingered, replenishing reservoirs but negatively impacting crop yields in various states.
