Taliban authorities demolish Kabul roundabout dedicated to Hazara leader, sparking outrage
The Taliban demolished a roundabout in western Kabul dedicated to Abdul Ali Mazari, a prominent Hazara Shia leader, triggering widespread outrage, local media reported.
The “Global Hazara Council” condemned the move as an act of “cultural genocide” aimed at erasing the identity of the Hazara community.
A Taliban official cited road improvements and traffic management as reasons for the demolition, but the council stated that the act violates the 1948 UN Convention on Genocide, infringing upon the cultural and social rights of Afghanistan’s Hazaras.
