World’s Largest Soccer Stadium to Take Tent-Like Form

The Grand Stade Hassan II, set to be the largest soccer stadium globally, is about to begin construction near Casablanca, Morocco, New Atlas reported yesterday.

Designed by Populous and Oualalou + Choi, the stadium will serve as a key venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.

Inspired by traditional Moroccan culture, particularly the Moussem gathering, the stadium will have a capacity of 115,000, surpassing the largest U.S. stadium’s capacity of 107,601. Its aluminum lattice exterior will provide shade and ventilation for spectators.

The design emphasizes landscaping, featuring 32 stairways that create gateways adorned with greenery and botanical gardens. Additionally, the stadium will host two local soccer clubs.

Tarik Oualalou, Lead Architect, stated that the design reflects Moroccan hospitality and respect for nature. Construction will take place on a 100-hectare site in El Mansouria, with completion anticipated by 2030.
