Death Toll From Israeli Strike on Gaza School Surpasses 90
Gaza’s civil defense agency reported that over 90 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a school housing displaced Palestinians, marking one of the highest death tolls from a single strike in the ongoing conflict, Arab News reported today.
The Israeli military claimed the school was being used as a command center by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants. Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani asserted that the casualty figures from Hamas-run media do not align with their intelligence.
The strike occurred during the dawn prayer, according to Islamic Jihad, and resulted in dozens more injuries, with many in critical condition. The Gaza government media office stated that the school was sheltering around 250 people, including women and children.
This incident adds to the growing toll, with at least 14 schools struck since July 6, resulting in over 280 deaths. Israel maintains it has taken measures to minimize civilian harm, despite ongoing accusations of targeting civilian facilities.
