Decrease in migrant visa applications following UK government changes

The rate in migrant visa applications from overseas workers, students and their families has fallen by a third within the last 12 months.
The decrease came about after the Conservative government introduced rule changes, banning most international students and health and social care workers from bringing family into the UK.
Figures from the Home Office hint that the number of migrants applying for the visa fell from around 140,000 in July 2023 to 90,000 in July 2024. The Home Office also stated that they would “train up our homegrown workforce and address the shortage of skills.”
There was a significant drop in the applications from health and social care worker visas which dropped by 80% to 2,900.
