July witnessed a troubling rise in militant violence across Pakistan, with 79 attacks recorded, resulting in 108 fatalities and 71 injuries, Dawn reported yesterday citing the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
This marks a 14% increase in attacks, an alarming 80% surge in deaths, and a 9% rise in injuries compared to June, the source mentioned.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its merged tribal districts were the hardest hit, accounting for 36 attacks and 60 deaths. Balochistan recorded 12 attacks with 12 deaths, while Sindh saw five attacks leading to six fatalities. In response, security forces intensified operations, eliminating at least 50 militants, a 56% increase from the previous month. Notably, Al Qaeda leader Aminul Haq was arrested on July 18, and several key TTP commanders were also targeted in intelligence-based operations.
