Karachi Ranked Second Riskiest City for Tourists
Karachi has been identified as the second riskiest city for tourists, scoring 93.12 out of 100, Dawn reported yesterday citing a Forbes Adviser report released on July 11.
The city trails only Caracas, Venezuela, which received a perfect score of 100, while Yangon, Myanmar, ranked third with 91.67. The ranking highlights Karachi’s significant personal security risks, including crime, violence, and economic vulnerabilities, leading to a level 3 travel safety rating from the US State Department.
Additionally, Karachi has the fourth-highest infrastructure security risk, indicating concerns about the quality and availability of city infrastructure. Historically, Karachi has appeared in various lists of “unlivable” cities, including a 2017 ranking by the Economist Intelligence Unit. In contrast, Singapore, Tokyo, and Toronto have been recognized as the safest cities globally, with scores of 0, 10.72, and 13.6, respectively.
